Sheikh Ayman Abdel Ghani, Acting Deputy of Al-Azhar, received Najla Al Shamsi, Chair of the Board of Research Science Investment, sponsor of the National Reading Project, to discuss ways to strengthen joint cooperation.

Sheikh Ayman Abdel Ghani stressed the teacher’s major role in shaping students’ character and awareness, noting that building a reading habit among students is a shared responsibility that requires teachers, schools and families to work together.

We want all our students to be readers, and for reading to become a real part of their lives, not just an activity tied to competitions.

For her part, Najla Al Shamsi, Chair of the Board of Research Science Investment, said cooperation with Al-Azhar is one of the key pillars of the National Reading Project’s journey, given Al-Azhar’s long-standing standing, its wide educational network and its established role in shaping students’ character and awareness.

Al Shamsi explained that the project works to make reading a daily practice for students rather than just a competition, by providing an environment that encourages reading and discovering and supporting outstanding students. She added that in the coming phase the organisation aims to develop its cooperation with Al-Azhar so the project reaches more students and teachers and has a greater impact on human development.

The meeting also discussed proposals to develop the existing cooperation and increase the participation of students from Al-Azhar institutes in the project’s activities, in support of its goals of spreading a culture of reading and developing students’ intellectual and knowledge skills.
